Moon Lore- Phases

Phases of the Moon
The moon and stars were very important to our agricultural and seafaring  ancestors. They provided light, guidance, direction, and marked the wheel of the year.

Over the centuries through careful study and observation our ancestors learned much about the moon and its effects on forces of nature, the plants, animals and even humankind.

Though we do not live in so close a connection and in harmony with the moon in these times, it still wields influence over our environment, the forces of nature and all living beings including humans.

Having some basic understanding of the moon phases and its influences can be a great boon to those whom seek spiritual growth, or those whom wish a more harmonious environment.

The moon has two states of being

Waxing ( from new to full)
Waning ( from full to dark)

Activities that are focused on growth, increase and gain are best attended to during the waxing moon. The waxing moon is better suited for constructive ventures.

Activities and projects that are focused on  release, discovery and lessening are best attended to during the waning moon. The waning moon is better suited for destructive pursuits.

There are four phases of the moon

Dark ( Hag Moon)

New  ( Maiden Moon)

Full ( Mother Moon)

Waning Crescent ( Crone Moon)

The energy of each phase it best suited for specific types of activities as well.

Dark Moon
The Dark moon is the hag moon, and its energy is best suited for rest, scrying and looking inward. This is a time to explore our darkest recesses and understand our angers and passions. This is the time we confornt our dragons, and the secrets we keep even from ourselves. Most magicks practiced on the Hag Moon are baleful in their results so many avoid any  spell work during the Hag Moon.

New Moon
New  Moon is  best suited to new projects and workings that are focused on hope, youth, and  beauty. Love, renewal, regeneration, and new beginnings are well suited to this moon.

Full Moon
Just as a  mother is a jack of all trades the full moon is as well. The list would be endless. The Full moon is at the height of the moon powers, this is the time we 'wrap things up', and celebrate all life's joys.

Crone Moon
This is the time we prepare for the workings of the waxing moon.  We review our current path and determine  what needs changing, or what we need to do in order to achieve our goals and desires. This is a very powerful time to seek guidance and engage in divination. Dreams during this time will tend to be prophetic.

It is said that the energy of the moons phase will hold sway for three days once it has set, with it energy gradually loosing influence. So the closer to the actual phase you get the better.
